Nash Drive, Bristol

A project to combine independent living accommodation consisting of self-contained flats, in a new building as a satellite to a sheltered supported hostel on a nearby site.  The hostel has been refurbished to meet current care standards.  The flats are designed with similar space standards and adaptable equipment as those in the hostel.

The sheltered flats serve as a stepping stone to those seeking greater independence and community involvement than that provided in the hostel.

Owing to their proximity and associated uses the new build was designed to assimilate with the scale and appearance of the refurbished hostel whilst also signalling the more independent aspirations of the occupants’.

The project arose from collaboration between John Grooms Housing Association; who have provided housing for physically disabled people nationwide; and Bristol City Council.
