Mardon Centre, Exeter

A special healthcare centre for neuro rehabilitation providing a range of inpatient facilities for individuals with neurological conditions, and with long term accommodation for eighteen people.

The building is set in a walled garden of a former manor house within the St. Leonards Conservation Area of Exeter.

The individual residential suites each consist of a private bedroom, lounge, tea making kitchen and level-access shower room.  These suites are designed to encourage a degree of independence and contribute to the assessment of patient needs for development of individual programmes for community rehabilitation.

Accommodation is provided for specialists in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, clinical psychology, neurological medicine and rehabilitation nursing.

Therapy facilities and communal rooms, including the communal dining room and lounge are located centrally.  Resident’s suites are planned in satellite pavilions; in groups of four or six around meeting spaces which are top-lit by roof lanterns.  Circulation through the building is through wide lobbies interspersed with these spacious, naturally lit and naturally ventilated meeting areas.
